Video - World Day of Peace - Pope Leo - January 2026
In his 2026 World Day of Peace message, Pope Leo reflects on the greeting “Peace be with you” as the living, transformative peace of the risen Christ—a peace that is unarmed, humble, and rooted in God’s unconditional love. He contrasts this peace with the darkness of violence, fear, militarisation, and despair shaping today’s world, criticising the global reliance on weapons, deterrence, and emerging military technologies such as artificial intelligence. The Pope calls Christians and all people of goodwill to protect and live peace as a present reality, not a distant ideal, through nonviolence, dialogue, mercy, and hope. Emphasising inner disarmament of the heart as the foundation for social and political change, he urges religious communities, governments, and civil society to reject the misuse of faith and fear, strengthen diplomacy and international law, and foster justice, trust, and solidarity. Ultimately, the message invites humanity to walk together in the light of the Lord by choosing a “disarming peace” that transforms hearts, relationships, and the world.
