A Prayer for Hope on Dark Days

This is a prayer for hope in times of anxiety, doubt, and depression. The one praying begins by naming the days when worry crowds the mind, the heart races, and dark clouds gather, and asks God to hold them gently, to help them recognise their own capacity for transformation - imaged as a butterfly - and to take refuge in God's presence. The prayer then petitions God to fill the soul with hope and Spirit, so that Christ, the 'morning Son,' might warm a frozen heart and change the mind. It closes by asking for tears to be wiped away, anxiety and depression to be lifted, and shadows to be dispelled, so that the one praying might see the doorway God has opened for them and begin to sing of God's love as a beloved child of God.

Second Week of Lent - Marist Reflection - and Prayer

This Marist prayer resource centers on Matthew 17:1–9, the story of the Transfiguration, where Jesus reveals His divine glory to Peter, James, and John on the mountain, accompanied by Moses and Elijah, and God’s voice calls the disciples to listen to His Beloved Son. Framed in the Marist tradition, it invites participants to see their own lives as “mountains” to climb—spaces of challenge, uncertainty, and transformation—where, like the Israelites in the desert or Jonah in flight, they are called to leave comfort behind and trust God’s guidance. The resource integrates scripture, reflection questions, communal prayers, and music such as “Will You Come and Follow Me (The Summons),” offering multiple ways to engage: personal contemplation on spiritual challenges, communal expression of intentions, and prayerful meditation through song. Together, these elements create a complete encounter with God, encouraging participants to recognize moments of transformation, surrender to His ongoing work in their lives, and carry the light of Christ from the mountain into ordinary daily life.

First Week of Lent - Marist Reflection - and Prayer

This Marist reflection for the first week of Lent invites us into a contemplative journey modeled on Mary, Jesus’ mother, focusing on discipleship, prayer, and faithful trust. Beginning with an Acknowledgement of Country, participants are called to enter into God’s presence through mindful breathing, prayer, and the Sign of the Cross, preparing their hearts to hear the Gospel of Matthew 4:1–11, which recounts Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness and his triumph over temptation. Mary’s reflection highlights themes of listening, pondering, prayer, trust, presence amidst suffering, and a willingness to follow God’s call, showing that faithfulness does not spare us from hardship but teaches us to stand strong within it. Participants are invited to journal on questions that explore personal “wilderness” experiences, the voices they follow, the rooting of God’s Word in their hearts, and their openness to God’s guidance. The reflection concludes with communal prayers for the Church, those facing trials, families, and personal discipleship, encouraging a faithful, prayerful, and trusting response to God’s Spirit, reinforced by music and a final prayer of surrender and perseverance, echoing Mary’s example of quiet courage and steadfast love.

Prayer - People of the Beatitudes

This prayer asks God to shape us into people of the Beatitudes, who see light beyond the clouds of life’s struggles and trust His guidance when things do not go our way. It seeks God’s gentle care when life falls apart, His grace to forgive in moments of conflict, and His strength when we face failure or suffering. It prays for courage to embrace sickness and hardship as meaningful, and for gratitude and hope when facing death, seeing it not as an end but as a path to resurrection in Christ.

Prayer Calling Forth Our Angels

This prayer calls upon the Holy Spirit to send forth guardian angels for guidance, protection, and strength, drawing from key biblical encounters with angels. It reflects on the angels who rolled away the stone at Christ’s tomb, asking for obstacles to be removed in our own spiritual journeys. It recalls Gabriel’s message to Zechariah, reminding us to trust in God’s promises even in moments of doubt. The prayer invokes the angels who sang to the shepherds, urging us to be bearers of hope, and the angel who led Joseph to Egypt, encouraging us to follow God’s will despite challenges. Like the angel who directed Philip, it calls us to serve others in love, and like those who freed Peter, it asks for freedom from the chains that bind us and our loved ones. Michael the Archangel is invoked for strength in spiritual battles, and the prayer concludes by pointing to Christ’s ascension, urging us to keep our eyes fixed on God’s divine plans. It is a plea for divine assistance in every direction of life, reinforcing our trust in God’s guiding hand.

Rewiring Negative Self Talk

The presentation starts by illustrating how the mind is a natural storyteller, making connections and creating narratives to understand the world. This is demonstrated through a quirky exercise where the audience is asked to consider how a desk could be the mother of a chair, highlighting the mind's tendency to form stories even in the absence of logical connections.

Marist Daily Reflection - August 15 - The Assumption

August 15 is a significant day for the Marists as it marks the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a central figure in Marist spirituality. The global Marist Family, including Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, Missionary Sisters, and Laity, honors this day with special Masses, gatherings, and spiritual retreats, reflecting their deep devotion to Mary and their collective mission. Over the years, this date has been marked by important milestones such as the approval of the Society of Mary by Pope Gregory XVI in 1836, Marcellin Champagnat's reflections on Marian devotion, and François Perroton's vow to missionary work. Even in challenging times, like the virtual gathering of Marist Laity in Australia in 2020, the Feast of the Assumption remains a unifying celebration of Marian devotion and the Marist mission.

Marist Daily Reflection - August 14

We reflect on our vocation today, we are reminded of the significant milestones in Marist history that inspire us to discern God's call. On August 14, 1830, Lay Marists in Belley, France, established a lay confraternity, embracing Jean-Claude Colin's vision of extending the Marist mission beyond the clergy. On the same date in 1833, Marcellin Champagnat sent the first Marist Brothers to La Valla-en-Gier, marking the start of their educational mission. In 1842, Lay Marists in Lyon organized a pilgrimage to Fourvière, demonstrating their commitment to the Marist charism. François Perroton embarked on her missionary journey to Oceania in 1845, leading to the founding of the Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary. Jeanne-Marie Chavoin, in 1851, reflected on the perseverance needed in establishing the Marist Sisters. Lastly, in 1873, John-Claude Colin urged the Marists to maintain unity and focus as he neared the end of his leadership. Let us pray, drawing strength from these examples to live our own vocations with dedication and faith.
